JANUARY
South African national Under-23 Olympic team captain Keagan Dolly attracted interest from a number of European clubs and he eventually made his dream move to Europe. Dolly completed a move to Ligue 1 giants Montpellier in France, where he has featured in some matches but is yet to score a goal for his new club.
Kenyan player Clifton Miheso hogged headlines following allegations that a gun was held to his head before he signed a termination letter with Golden Arrows. Arrows published a letter from Miheso on their website and stated that these allegations were untrue but the South African Football Players’ Union (SAFPU) continued to investigate and took the matter to Fifa.
FEBRUARY
Orlando Pirates supporters invaded the pitch and halted the match for an hour when their team fell 6-0 behind against Mamelodi Sundowns. As frustrated fans wearing Pirates' colours raced on to the Loftus Versfeld Stadium field in Pretoria after 82 minutes, the players and match officials darted unharmed to the dressing rooms. Several spectators were injured and taken to hospital as rival supporters clashed before police restored order.
MARCH
The South African Under-20 team booked a ticket to South Korea for the World Cup after they qualified for the semifinals of the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-1 win over Sudan. Amajita represented Africa in the World Cup, which will run from May 20-June 11, along with Zambia, Guinea and Senegal.
