SOUTHERN CAPE BUSINESS NEWS - You may have a modern alarm system with panic buttons, slam-lock doors, wall spikes, electric fencing or a firearm, but without an early warning system, you or your prized possessions could be sitting targets.
Pierre Halle, a radio-technology specialist and MD of Roboguard was asked by the Defence Force in the 1980s to offer a feasible solution to the spate of farm murders.
A visit to 23 farms confirmed a startling common denominator: in every single case, had the unfortunate victim just had even a few seconds warning, they probably would have survived the attack. All victims had had at least one or more of the security products mentioned above - but none of them had those vital few seconds to slam the doors locked, press the panic alarm button or grab a firearm. They were all caught without an early warning system.
Pierre with his specialist radio background, addressed this problem very successfully. He developed a wireless twin-beam sensor for farmers which sends a signal to a hand-held portable device called an "HQ" inside the home, giving an audible tone to alert the occupant that there is a human being on the premises approaching the building. He called the device a Roboguard.
Unlike point-to-point beams, Roboguards are not easily prone to false alarms and if installed correctly will not be triggered by pets. Both beams, each 500mm apart and one above the other, need to be broken simultaneously. They will detect intruders within a range of up to 20m and there is no wiring required as each unit has a battery pack which should last from 3 to 5 years.
The HQ has rechargeable batteries and will receive the Roboguard's signal from a good few hundred metres away if need be. Up to 8 Roboguards can be programmed into each HQ. Roboguard can be coupled to an existing alarm system, but the system was originally designed to be totally stand-alone.
Stafix Electric Fence and Security Centres located country-wide are the distribution agents for these effective devices. Please see the accompanying advert for contact details and enquire about an installer near you. Every home, every factory should have at least one Roboguard. It is a real winner!
